Santiago Menor

St.James of Alphaeus

St.James of Alphaeus is ninth in the list of the Twelve Apostles. He was the son of Cleophas (Alphaeus) and "brother" of the Lord, and seemed so to Jesus that Judas had to kiss the true Jesus to show Jesus the soldiers. Having preached the gospel near the Temple of Jerusalem he was thrown from the pinnacle of the Temple by order of the high priest. He survived but was stoned and killed off by a fuller, so he is represented with a fuller mace.

The statue was modeled and performed by the sculptor Josep María Subirachs.
